There are some instrumentals from the SSCW demos that 'leaked'.  And there are the 'supposed' DUTG demo songs, which there is absolutely no proof is actually the Goos.

There are also a bunch of instrumentals from SSCW and ABNG that apparently exist on demos.  I can't vouch for those though because I ain't paying for them.

I've always liked "Kevin's Song".
Other than that, I haven't heard any other GGD instrumentals.

Or if you have a really good equalizer, you could lower the vocals. That could sound kinda weird...

There's an I'm Still Here instrumental on certain versions of the I'm Still Here single.  I also have an instrumental demo of Dizzy and an instrumental of Long Way Down.

Sorry, I'm trying to upload it, but it's not working.  It's from a burned cd and it's in cda format, i don't know if that's the problem.  I tried to convert the format in iTunes and Creative Mediasource Organizer, but I can't get the files onto Yousendit when it's on one of those programs.  if anyone knows how I could possible solve this problem, I would still love for you all to be able to hear these.

If you're on a PC, you can rip it on Windows Media Player.  Just load the cd, open WMP, choose the rip button, choose the tracks you want, and choose rip music.  The files will then be .wma, which yousendit, etc, will upload.

Along the bottom of the screen it will tell you where it's sending the files from WMP so you don't lose them.  :D

I'd just like to confirm that there are 2 cd's worth of ABNG instrumentals, along with SSCW instrumentals, as I have them all.

Here's something you might not know though, there is also a cd of an uncut 44 min reel from SSCW, with So Far Away actually named "In Your Blood", same instrument part, different lyrics, along with a diff. version of on the lie, complete song of Tell Me Something I Don't Know (its actually a duet with robby), and an unreleased Robby song).

Just letting you guys know that there is so much more Goo stuff out there than it seems like.

Carlyn ~ I've got the Dizzy instrumental on my computer at home... I won't be home until Friday but if you aren't able to rip that, I can do it then. I know I've got at least the So Far Away demo too.

And I'll scour for whatever (little) else I have... I went on a little bit of a Goo-stuff-deletion spree a few months back but I've got random CD's lying around. Nothing too special (I don't believe in paying for bootlegs; so I've just got what friends have given or traded me for a few years ago.) Still, maybe I'll find something of interest. I'm all about the sharing.

As for thee instrumentals, that souds like it will work, however, I only have 10 minutes on the computer right now, but I promise I will try to post them tomorrow.  I feel bad that I've been keeping you all waiting for so long!  ANd I will lso try to post a concert I have from 1994 over the weekend, since I kept promising it, but never got around to posting it!

Wow...

I swore "In Your Blood" didn't actually exist, because the lyrics I heard from it didn't sound very Goo-like.  But there it is...

So the Story Goes... yeah, glad they killed that one...  :D

On the Lie... I like this demo.  This one is slightly more polished than the other demo with the same lyrics in it.

Tell Me... doesn't work for me.  :-/  Work for anyone else?

Thank you very much for sharing.  I had really thought that anyone who still had demos like these were long gone from the Goo community these days.

Blue O.....I went to respond to your post and it disappeared. I had several problems with Quicktime in the past. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and that seemed to fix my problems. Give that a try.

In My Blood....don't like the lyrics. I'm glad they never released this one. But the music sounds strangely like another song but I'm having a brain fart and can't remember which one.

So the Story Goes....hmmm interesting lyrics. Definitely glad this one went into the scrap pile. ;)

On the Lie....sounds great! I didn't like this song when I first heard it but it's really become a favorite now.

I can't get Tell Me to play either :'( and I love that song.

Thanks so much for sharing those demos. I love listening to that stuff.

Anyway, I bet you people are gonna freak.
I liked In Your Blood.

Question... IIRC, didn't John ask Paul Westerburg to write lyrics for two of the (at the time instrumental) SSCW songs? Obviously his lyrics made the cut for We Are the Normal, but I think I remember John mentioning that the other song in question was So Far Away... Might "In Your Blood" be the version with Westerburg's lyrics?

And yeah, just as well "Story" didn't make the cut, haha. It's still interesting to hear, though.

I can't seem to get Tell Me Something I don't Know to play either, which is possibly the one I was the most curious about... I have an mp3 of it on my other computer, but mine's just got John mumbling some lyrics every here and there instead of it being a duet.

So I listened to Dancing In Your Blood like 12 times in my car today.  It's funny that I got more satisfaction out of a demo song from SSCW than I did from having the entire new album of LLI.  The lyrics are weird, but I really really needed to hear something 'new' that I liked after all this time.

Title: Re: Instrumentals
Post by the red o on Dec 15th, 2006, 12:10am
Here's what I hear:

Dancing In Your Blood:

Help me, help me to forget
Another day's mistake
I'd love to feel you (drift away?  dripping wet?)
I'd love to feel you shake

I'd love to feel you dancing here
I'd love to see you cry
I'd love to see you dance for me
I'd love to see you try

'Cause I'm dancing in your blood
I'm dancing in your blood
Dancing in your blood
'Cause I'm dancing in your blood
I'm dancing in your blood
Dancing in your blood

Help me, help me to recall
The reasons that I'm here
I'd love to see you dance
Without nothing in the mirror (I swear that's what it says.  I swear)

I'd love to feel you pirouette
I'd love to see you shake
Help me, help me to forget
Another day's mistake

'Cause I'm dancing in your blood
I'm dancing in your blood
Dancing in your blood
'Cause I'm dancing in your blood
I'm dancing in your blood
Dancing in your blood

I'd love to feel you dance with me
I'd love to see you try
I'd love to see you dance with me
The way you do inside (deep inside?)

And I stay there
Cuz it's okay there
And I stay there
Cuz it's okay there

In my blood x6

If you take the alterations I made to Drew's lyrics, the song's kinda dirty.  :-X  Dancing naked, "dance for me", "dance with me", help me forget...  Still don't see where the blood chorus fits into it all.

The lyrics aren't very Westerberg-y.  The verses really aren't.  The "I'm dancing in your blood" could be (we're talking about a guy who just got the lyrics "who's gonna eat you when you're dead?" into a kids' movie soundtrack).  I know John sent him two songs, but I think Paul wrote lyrics for only one song.

So The Story Goes:

Right when I've found everything
And nothing can go wrong
There comes a time the sparrow's
Gotta sing a brand new song
Walk down to the corner store
To get some freezy pops
Thinking maybe red or blue or anything they've got

Oh so the story goes x3
Oh, and it never ends the same

[Leaning on the milk box?  What's a milk box?]
I've got nothing on my mind
Nothing but the sour taste
Of last night's cherry wine
I don't want to preach
But it's cheaper by the pound
I just thought I'd let you know
It's something that I've found

Oh so the story goes x3
And it never stays the same

Oh so the story goes x3
And it never ends the same

(This song sounds like it should have a banjo.  And a stack of hay somewhere in the video.  And I can see Robby in the grocery store telling someone to buy bulk because it's cheaper that way.  And the freezy pop part amuses me.  So weird.)

On the Lie interlude

And in his room at night
Those Polaroids he'd stare
It's just some crazy dream
I didn't know or care
And I must admit out loud
I thought they'd die by now
But for this old man's sake
I'd make it through somehow

Is that 4 in a row?  I'll stop being a post **** now.

Yeah, I don't know much about Westerburg so I figured I'd ask. And reading the lyrics, that's just... a really bizarre song, ahaha. I'm all for morbidity but what does that MEAN??

Lyyyriiiiiics.

Tell Me Something I Don't Know:

Well the grass is so green
On the other side of town
And the kids are so mean
When there ain't no one around.
'Cause I need some kinda way to make it right
And I see that it won't happen overnight

Is a dollar and a dream all they've really got for me?

Well how much can I take?
Well I can't take no more.
 Gonna hold myself up
And I walk out the door.
So tell me why I get no sleep at night
And I see, aw, that something just ain't right

Is a dollar and a dream all they've really got for me?

You can tell me,
Tell me something I don't know
Aw tell me,
Tell me something I don't know
Yeah tell me,
Tell me something I don't know
Make it fast, so I can go
Aw, tell me, tell me somethin' I don't know.

What do you think of me now?
Do I seem out of place?
Did the hurt in my eyes
Leave a stain on your face?
'Cause I need some kinda way to make it right
And I see that it won't happen overnight

Is a dollar and a dream all they've really got for me?

You can tell me,
Tell me something I don't know
Yeah tell me,
Tell me something I don't know
Yeah tell me,
Tell me something I don't know
Make it good, so I can go
Aw, tell me, tell me somethin' I don't know.

You can tell me, tell me somethin' I don't know
Yeah, tell me, tell me somethin' I don't know
Yeah, tell me, tell me somethin' I don't know
Yeah, tell me, tell me somethin' I don't know
Yeah, tell me...

Wow.  Thanks a lot for that!  They must have written So Far Away pretty late in the process, because they smushed the Dancing in Your Blood music and some of the Tell Me lyrics into that song.  Sort of makes sense because I always thought So Far Away seemed a little unfinished.  And I can't listen to this new version with wanting to sing John's "lyrics" from the older version.  :D

I don't think anyone managed to successfully download the instrumental I'm Still Here so I think the original poster would need to repost.  Although I don't really want another copy of Waiting on a Dream.  I hate it and like to pretend there's no proof the backing band is the Goos.  :D
