Title: Niagara Falls info/rant Post by the red o on Nov 1st, 2006, 6:38pm http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/crookedrhyme/goo/gooselloutsniagara.jpg Guess who won't be seeing Goo for her birthday. :-/ I don't know what kind of drugs someone took to make tickets that expensive for that venue in that city for that day, but those are some awfully delusional drugs. The other tour stops for normal non-holiday shows are priced somewhere between $30-$60. (if even) This one is $100 for the best seats? So then you reason, well, maybe I'll just get a 'cheap' seat for $65 and deal with being further away. Then you read that the whole floor is flat. So... if you're more than about 10 rows back you can't see at all. I did some investigating into the venue. With exception of Duran Duran, whose prices are crazy everywhere, all of the acts have tickets priced at $30-$60 at the venue. I also did some investigating in the date of the show 12/29. No act that I looked at had prices raised for that date compared to their prices for the rest of the tour. So why are the Goos' tickets $100? Whatever. Hope it's lots of fun with the gamblers given free tickets to a show they're too drunk to remember. I'll be at home, making a mix tape of my dream Goo setlist and thinking back to when I really admired them for all the good they did and when I genuinely believed they toured because they loved playing live for their fans. |

Title: Re: Niagara Falls info/rant Post by Silvergirl on Nov 2nd, 2006, 9:57am i think the venues themselves have a lot to do with the price of tix(correct me if I'm wrong folks)...god look at how HOB prices have sky rocketed.....I grumbled at the NYE tix for sure...and my pocketbook felt that one and it groaned...maybe one of your Goo sistahs will call you ;D are you going to the Albany/ Syracuse shows by chance Teri~ |

Title: Re: Niagara Falls info/rant Post by Silvergirl on Nov 2nd, 2006, 9:59am ***Edit**** the word is out the Goos have a devout following, they(the venues) know we will pay |

Title: Re: Niagara Falls info/rant Post by fan.googoodolls on Nov 2nd, 2006, 10:04am I'm sorry that you won't be going to see the Goo Goo Dolls perform in Niagara on your birthday. :'( I'm sure you'll have lots of fun whatever you do to celebrate on your birthday. :) ~Mike~ |

Title: Re: Niagara Falls info/rant Post by Hysteria on Nov 2nd, 2006, 1:01pm That really sucks about the ticket prices, absolutely insane, sorry to hear you wont be going to see them, but like Mike said, i'm sure whatever you do for your birthday will be cool. :) |

I absolutely agree that the venue has something to do with the price of the tickets, but the band (and their people) aren't helpless. These things are all agreed upon and contracts are signed. If the band doesn't like the prices, set up, whatever, they don't have to play a show at that venue. They are not forced to play at this particular venue for this amount of money. In Buffalo there are a couple of other (nicer) venues that accomodate a show, namely Shea's, which is available that day and holds twice as many people, which the Goos could sell out easily in Buffalo. Double the people, cut the price in half. I would not flinch at $50 tickets for a decent seat on an elevated floor in a beautiful theatre. I read the press release linked on AG's tour calendar. The Seneca Niagara people pretty shamlessly said this show is a quick easy money grab and an easy way to get the people to the casino (because why go to that casino when you can go to the gorgeous ones across the river unless there's the hometown band playing?) I won't knock the casino people for doing what they can to bring in people and money, because they're upfront about it. I will say I am extremely saddened to see the Goos going along with this however. If their whole deal was "We want to make money" then I wouldn't mind, a band is a business afterall. But they walk around wearing this "We love our fans. We especially thank our Buffalo fans for supporting us in the early years. Tickets should be affordable, blah blah blah" and then go along and allow the venue to charge $100 a ticket on a non-holiday non-private/charity show. Wasn't it John who said "I wouldn't pay more than $30 to see the Beatles if John Lennon came back to life for the show"? Well, I'm not going to pay $100 to see this show unless George Tutuska's band opens... I won't rant anymore. It gets too complicated in paragraph form. I think it's bullshit, I hope the Goos make lots and lots of money since that's apparently what they want to do, and I think this is the final nail in the coffin for a band I love. (And no, no Albany/Syracuse for me. I made a London Ont/ Niagara Falls decision, which seems to be really working out for me as I refuse to pay for Niagara Falls and have a strong urge to tear the London ticket up into tiny pieces right now.) |

And thanks to all for the optimistic birthday comments. :D Unfortunately being between Christmas and New Year's, and with my sister's birthday 2 days before and my best friend's the day after, my individual birthday 'holiday' just gets lumped into everything else in my family and my friends' celebrations, which is probably why I am so much more disappointed about something 'special' not working out. |

Title: Re: Niagara Falls info/rant Post by Shannon on Nov 2nd, 2006, 4:34pm I'm really sorry to hear this Nicole. I know you were really looking forward to having the show practically in your backyard and on your birthday. I've known many artists to accept casinos shows because it is profitable for them. Their band is a business and has to make money to tour and make records but I do see your point about doing this in, of all places, Buffalo. |

Title: Re: Niagara Falls info/rant Post by the red o on Nov 2nd, 2006, 9:58pm Thanks for the kind words, guys. I've said before that I'm ready to leave the Goo community these days, but there are some really wonderful people around here that make it really hard to walk away. I hope you know who you are :D And I don't require any special birthday attention. Just tolerate my moping that day by ignoring me. :D |

Title: Re: Niagara Falls info/rant Post by the green o on Nov 2nd, 2006, 11:14pm This is random, but for some reason I was thinking of Eeyore. So I googled me some Eeyore, and I found this: "Eeyore, a very gloomy, blue-gray donkey, is stuffed with sawdust. Despite this, Eeyore is a very intelligent animal, although he keeps most of his knowledge to himself. That's why he is very quiet most of the time and a bit depressed. Eeyore lives at the 100 Acre Wood Southeast, in his 'Gloomy Place'. His favourite food is thistles. Eeyore loves being remembered on his birthday and hates being bounced." So let us remember Eeyore on his birthday, and remember the red o on her birthday. And may neither of them ever, ever be bounced. *runs & hides under the hunny pot* |

Are you comparing me to a donkey? Seriously? I am not blue grey. I am very very very white. I am not stuffed with sawdust. Well, I don't know for sure actually. Let me get back to you on that one. I am not a donkey. I have been called an ass though. Intelligent? Well, used to be. Until I entered grad school. Are there remedial classes for chemical engineering Masters? I do like the thistle color crayon though. I always liked it because it didn't actually show up on paper and it got to be the lucky crayon that never got worn down. Anyways, this is not a thread about me. Or my birthday. It's about the Goos being evil money grabbers in my poor poor WNY. You're supposed to agree or retort with "OMG!!! LET LOVE IN!!!!!" Come on, people, work with me. |

So are you going? Are they considered the 'headliners' or is it a equal opportunity deal? I'd like to see KT Tunstall though. I saw her perform on a handful of late night shows and was super impressed with how she performed full versions of songs without a backing band. Is Smashmouth still alive? Wow. At least it's not a typical hot 100 Christmas show. No Kevin Federline* or Fiddy Cent to sit through. *Okay, I would watch Kevin Federline. Seriously. I need help. I know. |

Title: Re: Niagara Falls info/rant Post by the red o on Nov 3rd, 2006, 12:02am Oh, and just to have a post hat trick... I just went downstairs and noticed that someone put a copy of Night & Day, WNY's entertainment magazine insert in the newspaper, at my spot on the table. I flipped through it and Bam! The article announcing the Niagara Falls show. Apparently my mother wants to rub salt in the wounds. (Coming soon - the thread ranting about my mother. I kid, she's cool. She offered to drive 20 minutes from home to keep me company while I waited for Triple A to rescue me from a dead car battery tonight) |

To add to the confusion, which radio stations like to do, it also says: FEATURING: GOO GOO DOLLS, BARENAKED LADIES, KT TUNSTALL, GUSTER, JOHN ONDRASIK of 5 for Fighting, SMASHMOUTH, LEIGH NASH of Sixpence None the Richer & MORE TO BE ANNOUNCED MORE TO BE ANNOUNCED!! Yeah, maybe they're makin' room for K-Fed and fiddy cent. Nah, I'm not going. I am scheduled to work that evenining, and if I wanted to go I'd have to walk up to someone and ask them to switch their eve with mine. So much trouble. So, no radio station XMas extravaganza for the green o. We are Eeyore. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated. |

Title: Re: Niagara Falls info/rant Post by the red o on Nov 3rd, 2006, 11:03pm Hello again. Long time, no see. Anyways, I just read the excuse on the IM about no presales for this show. Apparently, the casino ticketing policies say that presales are not an option. Well, I submit to you the following: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/crookedrhyme/goo/IM%20lies/durandurnapresale.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/crookedrhyme/goo/IM%20lies/jewelsenecaniagara.jpg Please note that one of these shows is happening tomorrow and one show is happening at the end of the month so the policy should be exactly the same. Please note the presale options being provided. Please note how it appears the IM is lying. (Please note I am not saying the IM is lying, I am saying it appears the IM is lying.) Please pass this info on to whomever you feel inclined to pass this on to. I highly encourage someone to share this with the IM messageboard, as I do not post there and do feel they are the ones who deserve to see these images the most. |

Well... A story. Today I had to put gas in my car and had about $4 on me and remembered the $20 of gas money I had put aside for the trip to London. I thought for a moment "Do I really want to go?" And well, there is no money set aside for the concert anymore... This is solely based on the decision that I really don't want to see the concert anymore. Of course I would love to see you again and I would love to meet the others going, and right now that's the only reason I would like to go. But the idea of a long drive and waiting out in the cold for hours to see a concert I don't really want to see is a bit crazy. Hopefully we'll have the opportunity to meet again under better circumstances... :-/ And I hope you all have lots of fun. :D |

Title: Re: Niagara Falls info/rant Post by the green o on Nov 5th, 2006, 2:08am Aww...waiting out in the freezing cold for a concert is wikkid fun! We just did that tonight/last night(?) in Albany. Saw snow flurries on the way, and goofy fans climbing up the side of the venue. Even I climbed up to take a peek in the window. It was great. Very entertaining. And we didn't even know any of these peeps. But, sometimes it's the money, or the trip is very far, or whatever, so I can relate. |
