Jerry Lewis, at the end of the 2005 MDA Telethon, announces a record-breaking total of pledged money, $54.9 million.

THE PUEBLO CHIEFTAIN

If it's the Labor Day weekend, then it's time for Jerry's Kids and the 41st edition of the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Association Telethon.

The show runs on KOAA-TV (channels 5/30) from 10:35 p.m. Sunday to 4:30 p.m. Monday - probably. The Pueblo-Colorado Springs NBC outlet is one of 190 channels around the nation running the telethon, a collaboration dubbed "The Love Network."

If, and only if, NASCAR racing would be rained out on Sunday, the telethon would be run live, beginning at 7 p.m. Without the rain, NASCAR will prevail, and the local programming will be run on a time-delayed basis until sometime early Monday morning, when Lewis & Co. will be played live.

Lewis again will be assisted by his veteran co-host, the venerable Ed McMahon. Others taking co-host shots include Jann Carl, Tom Bergeron, Norm Crosby, Billy Gilman, Larry King, Tony Orlando and Bob Zany.

The 21 -hour show will originate from the new South Coast Hotel in Las Vegas, with segments coming from New York and Chicago. The talent scheduled for the program looks like a Who's Who of the entertainment industry. To name but a few: Paul Anka, Goo Goo Dolls, Lee Greenwood, Dave Matthews Band, Neil Patrick Harris, Ray Romano, William Shatner, Lance Burton, Celine Dion, Clint Holmes, Julie Roberts, Patti LaBelle, Bebe Winans, Brian McKnight, Branford Marsalis, George Clinton, and the casts of "Phantom of the Opera," "Shout," "The 25th Annual Putnum County Spelling Bee," "The Color Purple" and "The Wedding Singer."

Talents and glitter aside, the annual event focuses on muscular dystrophy and the many people it involves, victims and caregivers alike.

The proceeds raised on air and at sites all over the nation will support the MDA's vital research and services for children and adults with any of the more than 40 neuromuscular diseases covered in its program.

Last year, the drive raised just shy of $55 million, a new record.

Since 1998, the telethon has been seen around the world via Internet simulcast, hosted by RealNetworks on MDA's Web site.

The show - and MDA - is very much of a personal effort and institution for Lewis, who turned 80 in March, and has suffered more than a few physical ailments of his own.

Born Joseph Levitch in Newark, N.J., Lewis was best known as a movie comedian, before moving into some straight drama, writing, directing and production.

I read this on AG and thought I'd post the info here too....

According to our friend ...

"the VTR footage from Mohegan Sun for Better Days is scheduled to air Sunday night, during 9:55PM-10:45PM cutaway (EST), approximately 7 minutes into the cutaway. Of course things may change on the national end, but as of right now, that's when it's scheduled. The performance follows a family interview with the Assink family, along with Dr. Howell. "

We're not sure about other times through the night or on Monday, as there are some segments yet to be completed, but as we find them out we'll let you know.

See if your local station wants you to see Goo, because apparently Buffalo doesn't...  :-/

The Goos were on at that time (10:50pm) out here in Chicago -- they only showed Better Days! It sounded great! It sounded like they were expecting to have another song air but I haven't seen it! (I TIVO'd last night) They haven't been on again that I've seen though!

I waited until 11:25pm ET - and they hadn't been on yet. I missed it - hopefully someone taped and can share it with the rest of us.

That's what I'm hoping for too. It's gotta show up on YouTube at some point.
