Title: Rzeznik Recommends

RZEZNIK RECOMMENDS KIDS HAVE TOUGH CATHOLIC UPBRINGING

GOO GOO DOLLS rocker JOHN RZEZNIK feels troublesome kids should be given a taste of religious schooling because he was terrified of getting beaten by the nuns who taught him. The IRIS singer had a strict Catholic school upbringing, but it made him respect authority and family values. He says, "I still flinch every time I see a nun. They would whoop your ass and then they'd call your parents and tell them why they'd whoop your ass and you'd go home and your parents would whoop your ass! "You read these things about kids bringing guns to school and I would never be caught dead with a gun at Corpus Christi grammar school because I would be afraid that the nun would take it away from me and pistol whip me."

Ha ha ha.  I love this story.  Thankfully I only spent a year in Catholic school, but 11 years of church school makes me avoid directly speaking to or walking past a nun now.

I grew up going to a Catholic Grade school and a Catholic Highschool.

...I actually miss wearing uniforms. I didn't have to pick out what I was going to wear everyday!!

lol.

Man, the Catholic school system...lol.

I personally think that kids act the way they do, with the disrespect and all, because of how they are raised.  Discipline and learning how to respect starts at the home not at school.

I never went to a catholic school and I learned how to be respectful towards my elders and everything from my parents.  My dad went to a catholic school and I won't even comment on his attitude about that and religion.

but, in my opinion discipline and learning respect towards others - especially one's elders, has to start at home.

I dunno. I still do some volunteer work at the Catholic school my kids went to, and the kids there are just as bad as anyone else.
There was only one nun who worked there, and she left to go do another job, so there are only lay teachers and staff now at the school.
I think kids are the same no matter if they're at a public school or a parochial school. If you're good, you're gonna be good no matter where you are, and if you're a bully, you'll be that no matter where you go. Unfortunately my son got bullied at that Catholic school for a long time. Now he's in a public tech high school, and is happy there.

I remember when I was a kid going to catechism class, the nuns used to rap on your knuckles with a ruler if you got out of line. Whenever I see a wooden ruler, I think of that.

I never went to a catholic school, but when I spent holidays over in Ireland with my family I used to have to go to Mass Services, and Sunday school when I was alot younger cause i'm Catholic... but yeah I think it made me more well behaved in the long run, and made me repsect my parents and other people alot more, especially looking at the secondary school I went to, and how many assholes you used to get there in comparison.
