Title: Counting Crows cancel Bethel show tonight ... Post by Shannon on Aug 9th, 2006, 2:22pm http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2006/08/09/news-stcrows-08-09.html Counting Crows cancel show tonight Don't count on the Crows. Due to an illness, the Counting Crows will not perform at tonight's Bethel Woods concert. To compensate, the Goo Goo Dolls will play an extended set. A statement released from the band says, "Counting Crows will not be able to play the Wednesday night show... We are very sorry for the inconvenience and we look forward to coming back to Bethel as soon as we can. Enjoy the show." South Carolina alt/rock band The Working Title will open the show. Tickets may be refunded at point-of-purchase or by calling Ticketmaster customer service at 454-3388. Tickets for tonight's show are still available. Sandy Tomcho |

Title: Re: Counting Crows cancel Bethel show tonight ... Post by the red o on Aug 9th, 2006, 3:07pm Man... I was contemplating going to this show. My dad had to drive down to Northwest NJ Monday-Tues and I was going to convince him to let me go and stay around another night. Well, the green o and the fuchsia o, hope the setlist is increased for you guys and it's a good show! (Predictions: You get Here is Gone, Name, Naked, and either Big Machine or Sympathy) |

Title: Re: Counting Crows cancel Bethel show tonight ... Post by rzezniksangel on Aug 9th, 2006, 8:00pm Lucky Goobers!!! I was hoping that would happen here at the end of the month. Not that I wish that Adam Duritz got sick, but that the Goos would get to play an extended set. All the GOOd stuff happens anywhere but here. Hope anyone who hit the show tonight has an amazing time for the rest of us!!! |

Title: Re: Counting Crows cancel Bethel show tonight ... Post by the fuchsia o on Aug 10th, 2006, 1:39am Yeah, we didn't hear about this until we got there and they handed out little flyers at the entrance saying "IMPORTANT INFORMATION! The Counting Crows regret that blah blah..." So I read it and was just thinking, no way. SERIOUSLY? Yeah, seriously. (What I overheard from some people is that one of them got an ear infection... don't quote me on that, but it seems like something that'd be a good reason so I'll believe it.) on 08/09/06 at 15:07:29, the red o wrote:
You're actually really close. We got all of those except for Naked. But they played Burnin' Up!!! BURNIN' UP! Actually all of Robby's songs were ones-not-from-LLI, so I pretty much stood there on the verge of spontaneous human combustion (or as close as one can get). :P Setlist (in order): Stay With You Slide Big Machine Feel the Silence Black Balloon Smash Tucked Away Name We'll Be Here (When You're Gone) Sympathy Iris Burnin' Up January Friend Here is Gone Broadway Better Days Let Love In --- Become Give a Little Bit Without You Here The crowd was actually really good considering the circumstances and everything. The vast majority of the people were standing and singing along... hell, we had some real crazies behind us (in a good way) that were yelling and flailing about the whole time. Apparently they were Buffalonians. ;) And at least one of them had a bunch of signs for Robby. Very entertaining bunch. They were fun to be around 'cause they got everybody into it. Umm... what else. John was quite talkative (at least compared to what I've heard about the other shows). He made some snarky comments about how everyone needs to buy Let Love In, not just because it's a "great album", but because it's your civic duty. And if you don't? "The terrorists win!.... It worked for Bush, I thought it'd work for me too." He then proceeded to say that he's got nothing against the guy except for.... everything he does. And he was talking about Name, and how that was the song where they "made it" ("what the hell does "MADE IT" mean, anyway?") because it was after that song that he got his first stalker. He thought it was cool for a while until he found out that the girl was stalking him because she claimed that he talked to her through the TV. So John said that was a talent of his, and Robby was like "...Dude, you gotta stop talking to people through the TV." Now that I've reiterated their stories for you almost verbatim... "Sympathy" was interesting... John totally knew he was likely to forget some of the lyrics, so before he started he asked (sarcastically) for a volunteer from the audience to sing for him if her forgot the words. So of course her starts playing... and... doesn't know half of the words, haha. And he just stopped randomly before the end of the song as if he forgot how it ended. :P But it was possibly the most lovable version of that song that I've heard so I have to hand it to him. ::) Anyway. So the show was about five thousand times better than I was expecting it to be, especially seeing as how I was less than enthusiastic about Let Love In... but now that I've seen them do it live, I confess, the new stuff was pretty enjoyable (for the most part). I take back any bad stuff I said; because I really was disappointed about it for a while. :P But they've redeemed themselves. They all looked good, they were definitely in good spirits, and things pretty much went off without a hitch. Gooood show. (Oh, and I got a free Music is Art sampler CD at the end of the show because a whole bunch of them just randomly fell from the sky*!) *actually I think the crazy people behind me just threw them in the air. But I'm gonna pretend it fell from the sky. |

Title: Re: Counting Crows cancel Bethel show tonight ... Post by the green o on Aug 10th, 2006, 10:25am From what I also heard at the venue, it was the lead singer, Adam, who had an ear infection. I'm sure that would have a lot of impact on one's ability to sing in concert. Wishing him a speedy recovery. :) The fuchsia o covered it pretty well in her review.. I had a lot of fun at this show. It was a pleasure meeting the people from the meet & greet; we got along real well. And those folks from Buffalo know how to have a good time, for sure! They really got the crowd going. It was a fantastic audience. And to think I was afraid we'd be stuck sitting down through the show. No way! Everyone was on their feet for nearly the entire set. John cracked me up when he was leading up to Sympathy. He's talking all about how they're now going to do a real old song...like he's reaching deep into the vault or something. He may not remember the words, so if there's anyone who knows this song, have security bring 'em on up here to sing it. I'm thinking...ooh really old song... what are they gonna sing? Then you hear the opening guitar for Sympathy. Okay, well...not so old song! There was a guy standing up on his seat behind us, waving his arms and calling out to John; he wanted to get up on stage so bad. Then security poked him to get down off the seats. One of the other guys from Buffalo went up the aisle toward the stage, and I was kinda hoping they'd let him up there to sing, because that would've been a riot! He was way cool. But it didn't happen. I can't believe John stopped the song when there were only like 3 lines left to sing. That's the part of the song you can't possibly mess up on. He got all the rest of it right! The meet & greet was super quick, just enough time to introduce yourself, hopefully without stuttering too much, and strike a decent pose. My picture came out okay, but I look like a dwarf because I'm standing between John & Mike. If I'd have thought of it, I would have stood beside Robby, but it all went so fast, and I was just goin' with the flow...not making waves. It was nice to say "hi" to the guys though. It was a really good show! Fave song? Burnin' Up! That one took me by surprise. :claps: |

Title: Re: Counting Crows cancel Bethel show tonight ... Post by the green o on Aug 10th, 2006, 11:19am Whoops...on the set list, Let Love In should be there, I think after Better Days. During the show I was writing the setlist in the dark, and I must have forgotten to jot that one down; I know they played it. We'll modify the list. Can't leave out Let Love In, jeez... |

If I think way back to 2002....the last time I saw them headline.... I know they sang a bunch of stuff off DUTG...almost all the songs, actually, even Hate this Place! and stuff from Gutterflower of course. and Name, Naked, Long Way Down, most of the standard stuff. I don't remember the encore, though :( |

Title: Re: Counting Crows cancel Bethel show tonight ... Post by the green o on Aug 10th, 2006, 9:02pm I took a look over on the main World of Goo site, and if you look through the reviews, some folks included set lists for the shows they attended. I chose one randomly from the Gutterflower tour: Big Machine Long Way Down Slide Naked You Never Know Truth is a Whisper Dizzy Here Is Gone January Friend Smash Black Balloon Think About Me What Do You Need? Name Lucky Star Tucked Away Broadway Sympathy Iris What A Scene Encore : All Eyes on Me American Girl You can probably find variations if you look around there. |

Title: Re: Counting Crows cancel Bethel show tonight ... Post by the red o on Aug 10th, 2006, 9:03pm Oh, my dear green and fuchsia o's, I'm so happy things worked out so wonderfully for you both. I'm terribly jealous of all the extra songs you got (but damn, didn't I guess well? And if I had known they would have ditched Listen, Burnin' Up would have been my Robby guess :D ) and glad at least one of you agreed LLI is more tolerable live. Thanks for the review! |

Title: Re: Counting Crows cancel Bethel show tonight ... Post by the red o on Aug 10th, 2006, 9:06pm For the GF tour, there were 2 basic setlists, the 2002 and 2003 ones (excluding the Bon Jovi dates). Like the green o said, poke around in the old WOG reviews. I'm too disorganized to pull out my old setlists right now. |
