Mark his words: Goo Goo Dolls' frontman has no interest in acting
By Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith
Article Last Updated: 03/27/2007 01:58:39 PM PDT

Goo Goo Dolls singer/songwriter/guitarist Johnny Rzeznik Hollywood might be interested in Goo Goo Dolls singer/songwriter/guitarist Johnny Rzeznik, who's known for his charisma and sex appeal, but Rzeznick has no interest in turning thespian.
"You know what? The world doesn't need another musician who wants to be an actor. And the world needs even less another actor who wants to have a band. I hate that," declares Rzeznik, who's rolling into Los Angeles with fellow Goos Robby Takac and Mike Malinin to play the Wiltern on Saturday (3/31).

"You have these actors who have so much money to put into a vanity project getting attention instead of some kids in a garage band who've put their blood and soul into it. Although Kiefer Sutherland has been doing some cool stuff with Rocco DeLuca," he adds, referring to the "24" star and his Ironworks record label artist. "So there are exceptions, yeah, but he's the only one I can think of at the moment."

The Goo Goo Dolls, whose special-edition "Let Love In/Live and Intimate" CD/DVD was released last month, are wrapping up the latest leg of the "Let Love In" tour that launched last summer. "What's really cool is that now when we do a show in Los Angeles, we don't have to do anything for industry people. It's not like an industry hang, or anything

like that. It's just about playing the music and having a good time. We don't have to prove anything to anyone anymore," says Rzeznik, whose band hit a record 12 Top 10 hits on the Hot AC charts last year.
He notes that the technology-driven changes in the music industry "have been great in some ways but devastating to a lot of people. Nobody sells the kind of records they used to. It's amazing to me that SoundScan doesn't include digital sales. It's like, 'You only scanned 450,000 records.' Well, yeah, but we also sold 100,000 on iTunes."

John just earned 137 respect points from me.

Now that's an arbitrary number!  Cool

But I ditto you.  John's right ... the world does NOT need another musician thinking he's an actor.  Beyonce ... Bon Jovi ... are you listening?!

Respect and all, but...

A couple years ago John actually did an audition for a bit part in a film, which he said went terribly.  (There was also that story that he was up for a role on Sex and the City, but I can't remember who said what about it).  Interesting how he chose to leave this out of his commentary.

Man, you're tough with your point reductions.

He had always said the whole "actors shouldn't be musicians, musicians shouldn't be actors" thing, but then he went and considered parts in between making those statements.  Personally, I don't really care, but I thought it was interesting he left out that part of the story.  Cheesy

If I recall correctly, John was considered for a part as Carrie's boyfriend who turned out to be gay.  There were scheduling conflicts or something so someone else played the role, because the plotline does apparently exist in the series.  But I don't remember if John mentioned it or it was hearsay, so take that one with a grain of salt.

Well, he did get to say a few lines on the Drew Carey show, while Robby and Mike just had to stand around, blend into the background, and look cute.

"gets ya where ya wanna go..."  (Remember that little bit at the end of the show?)

Uh, regarding the article, I just don't see how they needed 2 authors to write this un-newsworthy piece. Tongue

I like Bon Jovi. but I think Jon Bon Jovi needs to stick to his music and not acting and not Country music either. I like Country but putting fiddle music to Shot through the Heart just isn't my cup of tea.

As for John Rzeznik.
I may offend some people and I don't want to but I really wouldn't like to see him star in anything where he poses as being Gay or Bi, whatever.
Some people can be alittle convincing and then you have to release these statements and stuff.
Ya know what, He doesn't need to act anyway.

I don't think John would be very convincing as an actor, so you probably don't need to worry.  I suspect there'd be some blank stares at the camera.  Cheesy

A gay or straight or bi character wouldn't make a difference to me.  We've already seen John and Robby playing with sex toys on camera, John in drag, AND we've seen the gay dance party, so it's not gonna get any more weird...

I don't know I take that back, for a good laugh, I would go and watch a movie with him doing a role as  a gay young man.
I honestly don't think he  could pull it off.

And why is there a dancing chicken on my screen everytime I come to this site?
