Goo Goo Dolls shine on own REVIEW By ALAN K. STOUT Sat, Aug. 12, 2006 SCRANTON – It was supposed to be one of the summer’s big double-bills: The Counting Crows and The Goo Goo Dolls. The Crows, however, couldn’t make it. Someone in the band’s camp was reportedly a bit under the weather. Would the show go on without the headliner? You bet. Would people still come? Sure did. 7,000 strong at the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain. Still a good time? Absolutely. The Goo Goo Dolls, who opened with the new “Stay With You” and followed with the hit “Slide,” probably played a longer set than planned, and turned what could have been a disappointing night into a memorable one. But then again, this is a band that some felt, when the show was first announced, should have been going on last anyway. They, too, have had a healthy share of hits, and they, too, are an excellent modern-rock band. In addition to the radio favorites, the material from the group’s new CD, “Let Love In,” also proved to be among the show’s highlights. “Feel the Silence” sounded terrific, and “We’ll Be Here” also sat well among the hits. “Name,” from 1995, and “Black Balloon,” from 1998, were also highlights, and the band held a nice rapport with the crowd. They were charismatic, yet unpretentious; witty; and appreciative. “This is a song about something we all need, but should never ask for,” said vocalist John Rzeznik when introducing the melodic “Sympathy.” A grand performance of “Iris,” the band’s mega-smash from the “City of Angels” soundtrack, also connected with the crowd and had it singing along. Other notable moments came with performances of the stirring “Here Is Gone” and the cinematic “Broadway.” There were also a few punchy power pop-punk rockers from bassist Robby Takac. This, just as much Rzeznik’s pop sensibilities, has also been a key component to the Goo Goo’s sound. Were the Counting Crows missed? Sure. Anytime you have the chance to see a songwriter like Adam Duritz sing a masterful song like “Long December” and it doesn’t happen, it’s a bummer. But the Goo Goo Dolls stepped up, big time, and delivered a rock-solid, dynamic show. Maybe they should have been the headliner all along. http://www.timesleader.com/mld/timesleader/15258073.htm p.s. these reporters need to start taking pictures to go along with their articles for us to enjoy! haha Stay True & Rock On! It's funny that the Goos have received, for the most part, bad reviews on this tour, but the moment CC aren't on the bill, the Goos are getting glowing reviews. I don't know if that means critics think that CC just blow the Goos away when they both perform or if critics can't say both bands are good in their own way when they both perform.

I was there and the show was just fantastic! I truly believe think that the time constraints of co-headlining have really cramped the Goos style and that is why they have not been getting good reviews. At Montage Mountain they were very warmly welcomed by a crowd that was clearly happy to see them and looking forward to their extended set. They were relaxed, laughing and joking with the crowd, the Goos we all know and love. We had a really wonderful time at the concert and meet and greet. It was every bit as good as the review says... nah, actually it was better! And BTW Triest, I have pictures, although they aren't very good or as close as I wished I could have been... But the show was wonderful! lady_croft
