Remember The Sex Maggots? The Goo Goo Dolls do

Once upon a time in Buffalo ...
... there was a hardcore-punk band called The Sex Maggots.
They were signed to the label Metal Blade Records and aspired to make enough money to pay rent.
Twenty years, numerous genre changes and two platinum-selling records later, the band, renamed the Goo Goo Dolls, continues its fairytale.
The Goo Goo Dolls are back on tour bringing pop hits such as "Name" and "Iris" to a diverse fan base. It's much softer work than The Sex Maggots.
"We can put our fans into two categories: there're the people that know our band and then there're the people that drive to work with us," says bassist Robby Takac.
"Fans of our music range from those people who like our band to people who heard 'Slide' on the radio once and decided we fit into their lives somehow."
The Dolls — Takac, lead singer/guitarist Johnny Rzeznik and drummer Mike Malinin — have been touring with the Counting Crows for the last month. Tomorrow they bring their brand of hook-laden pop to the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel.
"Some nights are easier than others," says Takac. "Sometimes you're standing on the stage thinking 'I can't believe we have to do this song again.' But then there are the people that make it worth it. It could be a 9-year-old in the third row, sometimes it's just looking up and seeing the crowd.
"Whatever it might take, it always gives us that spark."
The band is touring behind its most recent album, "Let Love In," which spawned the Top 40 hit "Give a Little Bit" (possibly better known as "that Gap commercial song," laughs Takac.)
"You gotta be in people's faces," says Takac. "You have to work yourself into whatever situation you can to get your songs out there."
Prior to the recording sessions for "Love," Takac says the band was experiencing growing dysfunction.
"Until just recently, we felt a disparity growing and we decided to put everybody in a room, which I think was a great choice, and write the songs like we used to in the beginning days."
"This time, we made sure everybody was getting what they need out of it [the music]. I can't say that there has been a three-year period in this band that I didn't worry if we would be together, but I think this is the first time in a while we've actually felt like we were a team."

I'm not downing your post in the least Triest....BUT just wanted to say I have the interview with John from back a month ago. The DJ asked about the Name Sex Maggotts and John said it was all a rumor that this was they're name. They were goofin off said that this was their name and before they knew it it had spread like wild fire. I have the radio interview taped. I could go back and listen and type word for word.... but in essense that's what was said. JUST wanted to put that out there that the sex maggots never REALLY existed.

Shannon and I just post the news articles that come out each day. If it has been done, said or is wrong, misquoted we hold no control, the papers do. We just post whatever we find that is GOO whether it be random Goo Goo Dolls mentions with somesort of twist, an interview, or just a cd review from someone all the way in Malaysia, and then let you guys sort them out and enjoy.
Don't worry no disrespect taken because I have seen some multiple postings from you guys too! haha

They have denied it recently, but in the past they have also openly talked about their awful past name. I still believe they were originally called the Sex Maggots, but they lie about it. I'd lie too...

That's what I thought too O. I remember past interviews where they talked about and admitted to the old name. I have to agree...I'd lie too.
