Buy goo mp3s online??

Excuse my ignorance, but I never bought an mp3 online. I don't have ipod and don't intend to. Can I buy an mp3 and it downloads right on to my pc?? Is there any time limit? Or do I have to burn it straight to a cd right away? I know it might sound like a dumb question, but to just let ppl download onto their pc seems kinda wrong cuz one person can easily download one song and send it to everybody. I know that movies, if u download, they give u a time limit..so i dunno.
When their new song comes out, I want to support them and buy it. Where would u recommend me to buy? How does Rapshody work? yadda
