From my last submission you learned a little history about RunDMC and Jam Master Jay, now we are going to educate on how The Beastie Boys met RunDMC and how the two groups changed the way music was heard forever. It all started in 1985, the Beastie Boys had been around for roughly 4 years and RunDMC had been around just as long. The two groups were truly starting to make a name for themselves. That is when Def Jam Records signed the Beasties Boys to be part of their growing empire. That year The Beastie Boys opened for RunDMC on one of the greatest tours ever, The Hell-Raising Tour. From what I have been told if you were anybody you went to this concert. A few years later the Beastie Boys signed with Capital Records and were
no long label partners with RunDMC. As the show started we were blessed to have Run himself make an appearance. We heard some new stuff and some old stuff including "Walk this way". Like RunDMC's concerts before they had a surprise for us, Fieldy from Korn came on the stage to help perform this great Aerosmith song. DMC was there as well however he did not perform. DJ Hurricane filled the spot of Jam Master Jay. Among the great fans who attended that night, Terri Marzell, Jays wife was there with us remembering a great man, and the great man disserved a great show. At that point the lights went dim and the stage filled with fog. The Beastie Boys came running full of energy to pay respect to a friend. Helping them in their show was DJ Mix Master Mike. After a couple hours of great Beastie rock, DJ Hurricane played with the Beasties for old time sake, then the Beasties had a surprise of their own, they had asked RunDMC if they could perform "Let it Flow". MCA gave a very emotional introduction to this song which truly showed the emotion that the Beasties felt by loosing Jay. Once Mix Master Mike begun with the song the whole arena was on their feet, with "Jays" in the air, jamming the way it was suppose to be jammed. The arena was packed and full of smoke, the mosh pit bounced with every beat of the bass. It was a great way to remember a great DJ. At the end of the show all of the profits went to Terri Marzell to help with the cost of the funeral and whatever else needed. This was the one sure fire way the fans could help Jay's family. Each year there is supposed to be a remembrance concert for Jam Master Jay, each year I will be there and report back. BACK : First Page |
