Beastie Prophets

First a hello to you all. I am Laver1969 and relatively new to the online diehard Beastie community. I am a passionate fan and an old fart, seeing my first Beastie Concert my senior year in high school in 1987.

I was recently looking through some old Beastie articles and came across an April 1990 issue of YM magazine. Yes, Young & Modern magazine. The book still has an old girlfriend’s subcription sticker with her name and address on it.
The article was written by Peter Martin and discussed Paul’s Boutique, their move to L.A. and how they have sort of grown-up.

The Boys also a give their plans/predictions of what they are planning to do in the 1990s spiced with traditional Beastie humor. While the items listed may not have exactly happened that way...I think you will see how close they foretold their future...at least in the 1990s.

1990: We’re releasing a new record this summer and going on tour.
While they didn’t tour nationally for Paul’s Boutique they did in fact release Check Your Head and launch a tour in 1992 where they hit many major cities twice. Including the New Orleans shows I caught in June and November of 1992.

1992: Yauch directs his first film, Concert For Bangladesh, Part 8: The Avenging Disco Godfather.
This entry is quite interesting because it mentions Yauch’s upcoming directing career and has a Middle Eastern/Asian connection. Bangladesh is less than 500 miles from Tibet and Nepal.

1993: We launch the BBC (B-Boy Channel)
While they didn’t get a television channel, they were one of the first bands to be on the World Wide Web. The Beasties sent their fans a computer disk and info about their brand new website way back in 1994.

1994: Our party line links 8 million listeners on New Year’s Eve.
Was this perhaps the prediction of Grand Royal Radio?

1995-97: We have kids.
Well no kids during this time period. Yauch’s baby girl was born one year later in 1998. They did do quite a bit of growing up between Ill Communication and Hello Nasty. And they all did get married in 90s. Adrock in 91, Mike in 93, and MCA in 98.

1998: Mike D releases two solo LPs: 50 Million Mike D. Fans Can’t Be Wrong, followed by Mike D. Alive & Alone.
Could this be the prophesizing of Country Mike’s Greatest Hits? (Netty’s Girl or the hardcore stuff where Mike does most of the singing, or maybe even the unconfirmed Aquatic Sessions) hmmmm.

1999: Adrock becomes the first MC in outer space.
This sounds a lot like Intergalactic....Once again..hmmm.

Would someone please ask them what is in store for this century!!! This does make you wonder.
